Sunny South Africa
I haven't read the local newspaper in weeks. Nay. Months. I've been to busy with work, my hockey committee, and the neighbourhood watch.

Until today where I took the time to catch up on the past few days' news, and I stumble upon this article:

I'm sickened. And sad.

My question is, that if the panic button was pressed, where were Atlas? My statistics show that robberies happen in the evening, early hours of the morning, or after daybreak. Was this robbery and murder committed after 5pm? Did the husband receive the call from Atlas and say: "I'll be home in a few minutes to check if the house is okay"?

My assumption is that these robbers were amateurs. They did not do their homework to find out what time the husband comes home. They did not take control of the situation and lock the woman in the bathroom, or tie her up, or not kill her.

Include in your bedtime prayers tonight that the four black men who come into your home are not amateurs.

Jeremy Clarkson did South Africa a favour by feining the fear that SA is dangerous and that there's crime and murder around every corner.
But I fear that the 2010 Soccer World Cup is going to be a tourist blood bath, and turn South Africa's popularity into smelly nappies.

I will have nightmares about this tonight. (About crime. Not smelly nappies.)

If you haven't already, take a minute now to think about the 35 year old woman who lost her life because she was in the comfort of her home, and her 50 year old husband who will never be able to set foot in their house again because the image of seeing his wife in a pool of her own blood, and savouring her last few breaths, will be far to traumatic to recall.
